Embracing Autumn with the Hunters Moon

A lot has happened, astrologically speaking, since my last blog post. The ‘ber months have arrived, bringing with them colder temperature, darker mornings and an abundance of colour as we enter into the start of the Autumn Equinox. You may have already noticed the changes as we shift into Autumn and the Hunters Moon is next in line to mark the shift of seasons. But what does it all have to bring? Read on to find out more!

An October Supermoon

The October Full Moon (on October 17th) is the first Full Moon following the Autumn Equinox and the next after the September Harvest Moon. It is an astrological event, marking the start of Autumn and shorter days. It is also a Supermoon, making it appear larger and brighter in our night sky (in fact the orbit of the October Supermoon is the closest it has been to the Earth all year round).

Traditions and Celebrations

Traditionally, the Hunters Moon was a time for Fathers and Sons to go hunting for meat and for communities to come together to collect wood, stock their larders, prep their smokers and do all that they needed to do before the arrival of the colder months; it was a time for survival.

Nowadays, our focus is primarily on spending time outdoors, incorporating fall flavours into our cooking, watching reruns of The Gilmore Girls and celebrating the many festivals that this time of year brings, such as Halloween, Thanks Giving and Samhain.

While plant life starts to slow down and leaves start to drop, Asters, Chrysanthemums and Pumpkins take their moment to enrich our homes and fields with the colours and the smells of Autumn. We also begin to welcome Autumn traditions such as pumpkin picking, bonfires and the first pumpkin spice latte.

Why is the Autumn Equinox so magical?

It is a profoundly powerful time to focus on magical and spiritual activity and the perfect opportunity to charge magical tools such as wands, crystals and pentacles. This time offers us an opportunity to set our minds on growth and manifestation. It is the perfect time to start a new journal and to think about what comforts we can take through the darker months to enrich our self-care and help us prosper.

Citrine for The Autumn Equinox

This change of season brings forth darker and colder days so it is a good time to pair yourself with a citrine crystal. Citrine is well known for its offerings of abundance and prosperity but it is also an energising crystal, helping to give you a boost of energy during these colder, slower months.

You may have noticed autumn beginning to show itself in my new work as I am always inspired by Nature and the magic around me. For all my Forest Witches, I offer this beautiful new edition to the storyteller collection featuring a lovely cast pine cone and citrine mini crystal ball. Also featured above is one of my new witches garden pendants, with embellished ivy and amber.

I am still taking things a little slow at the moment so please ensure you are following me on Instagram and signed up to newsletter to be first to hear about my next shop update. The next update is going live on Friday 18th October.
