Samhain

Samhain is one of the major festivals of the Wheel of the Year, for many Pagans/ Witches the most important festival of all. It is the third and final harvest festival when all the harvest is in, all is complete. Known as the Witches New Year when the veil between the worlds is the thinnest.

Samhain is the time to honour our ancestors, and reflect on the past year and our intentions for the new year ahead.

Halloween stems from the Festival roots, virtually all the traditions can be traced back to the Celtic festival of the dead, the wearing of costumes, for instance, and roaming from door to door demanding treats can be traced to the Celtic period and the first few centuries of the Christian era, when it was thought that the souls of the dead were out and around, along with fairies, witches, and demons. Offerings of food and drink were left out to placate them.

My plan this year is to go on a long walk in nature, meditate, journal about what my intentions for the year will be, create a ancestor alter and light a candle in honour of them.

Whats your plan this year?
